Our history
Azienda Agricola La Monica is located in Corato, province of Bari at the center of an area famous for its architectural and natural beauties. Frederick II’s Castles, Romanesque Cathedrals, Palaces and Manors, old farmhouses (Masserie), the Murgia with its hills that roll down to the coast, spread on the landscape.
The heart of the Azienda Agricola La Monica is in the area known as the Colonnella, once called Fenegrino, in the proximity of Corato and Bisceglie Dolmens on the road from the hinterland leads to the sea.
It is in the Colonnella, La Monica’s ancient family estate, now cultural and events container, that olive oil has been produced since the beginning of 1900.
The same oil that Luigi La Monica, Vito’s great-great-grandfather, already bottled a century and a half ago, and exhibited in London.
In the Azienda Agricola La Monica the cultivation of the Coratina olive variety is mainly grown in very prestigious way because of its organoleptic and qualitative characteristics, intensely fruity aroma and persistent flavour.
The oil extracted from this variety is our Colonnella olive oil line.
In the Azienda Agricola also the Nocellare del Belice variety is grown. The blend between the two variety of oils, processed in two phase system, represents the Don Pietro line, honoring Vito’s father as well as his great-grandfather whose portrait is displayed on the labels.
Don Pietro line is characterized by a fragrant and more delicate taste.
Furthermore, a third line has recently been added to our production: green Coratina olives cultivar in purity, processed in two phase system, not filtered creates Donna Caterina as a tribute to Vito’s mother and great-grandmother whose portrait is on its labels. This oil has intense flavors and aromas typical of the freshly pressed olive oil.
